At 10:40 time stamp, I can say I was a member at PTU a couple years ago trading NFLX stock options. I made a profit of $12K, with minimal losses. Roughly a 7/10 ratio as you mentioned. I couldn't achieve that unless I had the knowledge provided by you Jason and your team. However, I did get lazy and procrastinated. Now I'm back to learn more and apply CONSISTENCY!

@Jason Brown Man these beginner modules are a mindset settler for a stock market option trader. Happy I'm taking a step back to go through em instead on jumping too much into deep waters. I have a grasp of the strategies to trade but for sure need a mindset adjustment going forward. Thank you for your mindset directions we all should have.

@Christopher 200776 I am glad you see the power in the mindset element of trading.  The mechanics of buying to open and selling to close and qualifying options can be taught through guidlines and repetition.  However, the mindset challenges will always be evolving.  Once you master one element, there is another one to get better at.

Mastering this business takes time and there is no short-cut, we can speed it up, but you have to work on every step along the way. This is the work that many people never put the effort into, I am glad you are following the process. Keep us posted and lean on me and the community with your questions, we will all get better together.

Where do I go to practice without money initially please?

Hi @Phyll Pascoe Many brokerage accounts have a simulator or non-funded or paper-trading section of their platform.  (all of those names mean the same thing, I just listed them in case it helps you find it in your platform because they can be called different things.)

Going back to that expression of 'paper trading' that comes from the day before software helped to track it.  You can literally grab a piece of paper and write it out.  Also, here is link to a digital trade ticket in PTU to help you keep your trades organized.

@Wade M Sutton Thank you. I’ve just joined Interactive for their free trial which gives paper trading. It isn’t all that user friendly for beginners at all, so I’ll start with the link you sent me!
We appear to be fairly limited with brokers in New Zealand, who trade International stocks and options. I haven’t even looked at options yet but it is definitely something I want to learn when I have progressed a bit.

Hi @Phyll Pascoe you are right, there are limited Brokers that allow Option trading in both NZ and Australia. I really enjoy Interactive, I find them great with both paper trading and real trades. When I have contacted their support team, they are very slow to respond but other than that all other functions work well. I think it's normal to feel slightly over helmed, it's a lot to take in and wrap your head around. You are in the right place for knowledge and support!

Hi @Cheryl Fafeita, thank you for your reply. Are you in New Zealand?
yes you’re right. It is overwhelming but I’m really glad I’ve taken the steps to learn the industry that has fascinated me for so long! Good to hear about Interactive. I will persevere with them. I have a small account with Hatch (since Covid) and I’m now confused about them. I understood when I opened the account that they were the only place (later Sharesies too) that I could get access to US stocks but, even with the small learning I’ve begun here, that is definitely and obviously incorrect!

I'm in Australia @Phyll Pascoe I haven't heard of those other Brokers. I think you'll find it all falls into place pretty quickly. At first it's a lot to get your head around, I found it really useful listening to Jason's podcast along side watching the videos, I picked up a lot of tips, especially in the earlier episodes. Can you join the coaching calls? Even as a beginner you'll get tips from these sessions too.

@Phyll Pascoe @Cheryl Fafeita I love that the US stock market is available around the world.  The time zone flip is a little bit of a challenge, but just means you might adjust your trading style to be a little more long term so you are not as tied into intraday moves.

Keep up the good work, it is a little bit of a steep learning curve, but you will get it and the entire community is here to help support.

@Cheryl Fafeita@Wade M Sutton I was bulk listening to the podcast on a day trip yesterday ?It’s got gold nuggets in it!
Yes, I decided to join the group coaching to assist, or hopefully speed up, my learning. I missed last week, by the time I joined, but will be on the call today.

The time difference can be a challenge for trading so, as you say Wade, I will need to work towards a trading style that suits. The US market closes at my 8am at the moment. I’m quite sure it’s been done before and it would be even harder for Australia.

Thanks for your help

@Phyll Pascoe During our summer months, it will close at 9am for you, I'm up at 5am, if you woke at the same you would have 3-4 hours of trading, depending on daylight savings etc! Boom!

Haha. How to tell the dogs that, just because I’m awake, doesn’t mean we’re walking right now ? But I get your point for sure.

The Four Goal setting is great. It keep's your mind grounded. Also the stick with what Jason is teaching.

  • 4 weeks later...

The four goals is really a great way to learn how the markets work, and I'm going to follow the four goals out lined in this video into my own trading journey.

After viewing these modules, I already can identify what I was doing incorrectly. I look forward to more lessons.
